Technology

Resonant Acoustic Profiling (RAP) enables the real-time label-free analysis of molecular interactions by exploiting the piezoelectric effects of quartz crystal resonators to characterise molecular binding events.  Molecules adsorbing to and desorbing from the resonator surface alter the frequency of quartz crystal oscillation and those changes in frequency are proportional to changes in mass on the surface.  By measuring the changes in frequency of an oscillating crystal, RAP measurements can provide information on specificity, affinity, kinetic rates, concentration, and structural changes associated with molecular binding events. These measurements are not affected by complex samples or impurities.

TTP LabTech’s RAPid 4 allows researchers to interrogate and evaluate the RAP data to provide the following information for the interaction of molecules including:

  • quantitative kinetic analysis (rate constants)
  • quantitative determination of affinity constants
  • confirmation of interaction (yes/no)
  • active concentration
  • epitope mapping
