Automated chemistry
Instruments to automate specific tasks or analyses are readily available, but TTP LabTech can take your chemistry automation to a new level. Combining off-the-shelf and novel components, TTP LabTech can work with you to understand and automate the chemistry you specify:
  • synthetic chemistry
  • analysis and spectroscopy
  • sample handling and management
  • solvent management
  • data management and presentation.

Automating a chemistry laboratory begins with an exploration of the chemistry requirements. From this, process and system modelling are used to understand the scope and scale of the process. We work closely with clients to understand their needs and develop workflows which capture them. Custom components can be supplied for early testing and feedback from the end-user's laboratories.

Much synthetic and analytical chemistry can be broken down into standard steps, such as: liquid and solid additions, heating and cooling, agitation, and sampling. By focussing on the basic process steps, TTP LabTech can deliver automation which is flexible in use. Where possible, existing instrumentation and labware are used to reduce development costs and simplify implementation.

TTP LabTech software can be designed to interface with external systems for data presentation and long-term storage, or to enable workflows to move between laboratories and workgroups.

In addition to the small volume storage and pipetting systems provided by our comPOUND and mosquito products, we have developed automated systems to:

  • sample reaction chemistry
  • sample purification processes
  • transport samples to remote analysis stations
  • track samples
  • screen samples and report the results.
Automating a synthetic or analytical lab is a major project. To minimise disruption, TTP LabTech can plan a staged implementation, to extend the system gradually from manual use of novel components to the full automated process. Full automated chemistry solutions include solvent storage and distribution, and waste management. All projects are carefully de-risked at an early stage, and conformance with ATEX and other safety directives verified.
